This is a used car review for the Hyundai Excel X3 Sprint. A perfect first car that is great on fuel and cheap to fix.
I purchased this car in 2007, 10 years after its manufacture in 1997. It had 150,000 km's on the clock and was fair condition, inside and out.
As a young driver, this car was purchased to commute to school and work. It is excellent on fuel around town and on highways at a speed of no more than 110 km/s. I once drove from the Gold Coast to Bundaberg (about 6 hours or 442 km's ) in less than half a tank of petrol from a full tank.
I owned this car for 3 years and I never had any major problems with it. I did have to replace the hydraulic clutch shortly after buying it. It's not an expensive part and should only take a mechanic an hour to replace. The only other problem I had was with the starter motor which was cheap and easy to replace myself. The car started much faster after this as it used to wind up a little.
I owned this car up until 198,000 km's without any other problems. I sold it to upgrade to a more powerful engine. It was honestly a great little car and I would highly recommend this model as a first car or cheap run around, especially how I drove it over the years.
The Hyundai Excels are known to burn oil but this is not a major concern as long as you check it every 2-3 weeks and top it up if needed. I would do a complete oil and filter change every 3 months to prolong the life of the engine and increase efficiency - but this is something you should always do if you own an older car. If you have a mechanic that regularly services your car you don't have to worry about it as they would do it for you.
The only other thing that you should know is that it is common for the paint to fade.
So if you're considering a Hyundai Excel because they're cheap to run, easy to drive and good value for money then these little cars are perfect for you! Try to pick one up from an older person who had looked after and serviced it. Good luck.
