Chrysler 300 Luxury Series Makes Its Debut

1.08.2012

The Chrysler brand is a premium make, but its competition is Buick not Cadillac, Lexus or Lincoln. This means that Chrysler lacks a true luxury brand, something it hasn't had since the Imperial was its flagship sedan.

Chrysler, however, has a line of rear- and all-wheel-drive models that derives its platform from Mercedes-Benz technology. Its 300 and 300C stem from the automaker's days as part of the failed DaimlerChrysler entity, vehicles that were updated in 2011 and continue to lead the Chrysler brand.

The 300 series is as close to being a luxury car as you can get and with the introduction of the Luxury Series, this model is now the most luxurious Chrysler product ever built, even topping previous Imperial models that stood for luxury.

Here is what you'll find in the Chrysler 300 and 300C Luxury Series:

Exterior Enhancements -- The 300's athletic, but luxurious stance receives several important exterior treatments in the Luxury Series. RWD models are equipped with 20-inch polished face wheels while AWD models are outfitted with 19-inch painted pocket aluminum wheels. Its fascia features platinum chrome accents, side mirror caps and chrome door handles. Its grille is unique to this series too and features a platinum-chrome finish with platinum chrome mesh.

Engines and Transmissions -- Choose the V-6 engine with rear-wheel-drive and this motor is paired with a ZF-licensed 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine enables the big Chrysler to attain a class-leading 31 mpg on the highway. A 5.7-liter V-8 is available too and comes paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission.

Interior Upgrades -- How do you define luxury? Step inside the Luxury Series and a cabin full of enhancements are included. An 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Garmin navigation, SiriusXM Traffic and SiriusXM Travel Link, an LED-illuminated instrument cluster with driver-selectable color EVIC are among the features present. This model also includes a power tilt and telescoping steering column with memory settings; power-adjustable pedals with memory; a power backlight sunshade; Berber carpet floor mats featuring satin chrome lower door sills with "Chrysler" logo; dual heated and cooled cup holders; foot well lighting; LED-illuminated interior door handles and map pockets for the front and rear. Many of the standard features found in the Luxury Series are optional in other editions if available at all.

Safety Measures -- Front, side and driver's knee airbags are standard with the Luxury Series as are side curtain airbags that offer protection for outboard sitting passengers. This sedan is equipped with four-wheel anti-lock brakes, traction control, stability control and features active head restraints to protect occupants.

Chrysler Warranties -- If you're ever stuck, towing assistance is provided for the first 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. This vehicle offers a bumper to bumper warranty for 36 months or 36,000 miles. Drivetrain and corrosion warranties have Chrysler models protected for 5 years or 100,000 miles. Extended warranties are available through your Chrysler dealership.

Cost for the well-appointed 300 Luxury Series begins at $40,145 or about $12,000 more than base models. However, this Chrysler is competitively priced with other full-size luxury sedans, offering a lower beginning price point than most.

How To Navigate An Auto Show

1.07.2012

There are many people who enjoy attending the auto shows each year as the new cars are almost ready to come out. You may be one of these people who like to walk around and see many of the new makes and models that will be offered to the public. This gives you a first glance opportunity to see the cars before they are offered to the general public. This can be kind of fun to do. You may want to attend the auto show with your family. This can be a fun family event that helps you bond and enjoy each other's company. You could also find a friend or a group of friends that can attend the expo with you. Most often they have food and beverages for sale at the expos so you can enjoy a few hours of browsing the car floor then get a bite to eat and visit with your friends or family who are with you. Perhaps you are one of the people that love to go to the expo each year and you look forward to it all year. There are some things that can help make your visit to the auto show more enjoyable.

The first thing you can consider when you are going to attend an auto event is to have a plan if there are specific makes or models you wish to see. Often, there are floor plans on the websites for the car shows that can show you where each particular make and model are. This way you can make a plan to be sure and see the ones that you are most interested in first. Then if you run out of time, at least you have seen the ones you really wanted to see.

Another thing you can do to make your event more fun is to avoid the busy times. The opening weekends are typically the most crowded and should be avoided if possible. If there are too many people, you may not have as good of a time. Often, you may want to sit in the cars etc. and if there are too big of crowds, this may not be feasible for you to do. By avoiding the crowds, you can help your attendance feel better. If you can attend the expo on a weekday, you will typically have a lot less people there at the same time as you are. This can be more enjoyable and much more relaxing. You may then have time to sit in some of the cars you are interested in and really have time to check them out. Going earlier in the day can also be a good idea to avoid the big crowds.

Once you are at the show, don't rush. You can plan to go at a time when you have plenty of time to look around and enjoy yourself. If you feel rushed, you may not enjoy the event near as much. Most of the car manufacturers will have representatives there by their particular vehicles to answer questions for you and you can find out a lot of information this way. The auto show can be a great event.

How To Properly Winterize Your Vehicle

Winter has arrived in full force, and if you haven't already winterized your vehicle then you should do so quick! Changes in weather and climate don't just affect people and animals, they also affect vehicles and can cause your vehicles to have various issues if you don't prepare them properly. Here are some of the things that you can do to make sure that your vehicle is properly winterized so that you can depend on it even during the coldest winter days and nights.

First, make sure that you properly take care of your engine oil and use the right oil for the cold conditions. If you live in areas that get extremely cold in the wintertime (below freezing), then you will probably want to use engine oil that is thinner than your regular oil so that it won't clump and freeze as easily. If you have any doubts about the type of oil that you should be using, talk to your local auto shop or refer to your vehicle manual so that you choose the right engine oil for the winter.

Second, make sure that you check your engine coolant and use a coolant that contains ethylene glycol so that your engine will be properly protected. Engine coolant isn't just for cooling engines down on hot days, but it is also very important for protecting your engine from corrosion, so it is important to keep your coolant filled up during the winter months as well.

Third, make sure you have your battery inspected before the coldest weather hits, so that you will know whether or not it can last through the winter. If your battery is already having issues then it is not likely to make it through the winter, but an expert should be able to read your battery's voltage and let you know if it is time to purchase a new battery or not. When purchasing a new battery, make sure that you check the manufacturing date and try not to ever purchase a battery that was manufactured more than six months ago. This will help to ensure that you get the longest battery life possible when you purchase a new battery.

Fourth, if you have a vehicle that isn't ideal for snowy conditions, or if you just want to have more traction and stability in the snow, then you should consider purchasing a set of quality snow tires or all-season tires for the winter. Snow tires give your vehicle extra traction so that it is less likely to slip in slush or ice, and you can even purchase snow tires with studs if you live in the back country or at the top of slippery hills. All-season tires are also an excellent choice because they can be used both in the summer and the winter and give your vehicle some extra traction so that you can get to work more easily and safely in the snow.

Finally, you should also make sure that your windshield wipers are working properly and not missing any spots on your windshield, and always carry an emergency kit in your vehicle in case you become stranded in the snow. As long as you are prepared you will be able to minimize your chances of having vehicle problems this winter season.

Why It Is Important To Practice Tire Rotation

1.06.2012

Tires do not wear evenly and it is preferable to take steps to ensure that all four tires wear at an even rate. In this way it is possible to extend the overall life of a single set of tires. Not only will the tires last longer, but the vehicle will perform better and the safety of the passengers will be better protected.

There are many reasons why tires wear at different rates. When a vehicle turns, for example, more pressure is placed upon the front tires, especially the one facing the direction of the turn. Front wheel drive vehicles are especially said to place tremendous pressure on the front wheels, causing them to wear much quicker than the rear ones. Braking also has an effect. There is also a distinct difference between the weight distribution on the front and back tires. Mechanical problems can also cause uneven wear. For example, any wheel that is out of alignment will wear much faster than the others. Over or under inflation may also have an effect. All of these factors can be negated by rotating the wheels from time to time.

Most manufacturers recommend that this practice should be executed after a certain distance has been covered. Not only does it help to prevent uneven wear if the tires, but it can most certainly even have a positive influence upon the road holding, handling and traction of the vehicle.

There are several schools of thought when it comes to the question of how exactly and how often this procedure should be performed. Most manufacturers provide guidelines and it may be wise to ask the advice of a reputable dealer. It seems that the most common answer is that the procedure should be performed roughly every twelve thousand kilometers.

Traditionally, the rearward cross method has been favored. This involves swapping the front and back wheels on each side of the car. The left front wheel goes to the left back and vice versa. In recent years, however, experts have come to recommend the X pattern. In this instance, the wheels are crossed back to front. For example, the left front wheel is placed at the right back and the right front wheel at the left back and vice versa. This method, when performed regularly, is said to ensure the best chance for an even wear.

Experts agree that the methods described above may be beneficial for all wheel drive and rear wheel drive vehicles, but that a different technique is necessary for front wheel drive cars. For these vehicles, the forward cross technique is recommended. This is because front wheel drive vehicles places particularly harsh demands on the front wheels. This method involves moving the back wheels to the front, but in a cross pattern. The left back wheel goes to the front right and the right back wheel goes to the left in the front. The two front wheels do not cross. The left wheel in the front goes to the left at the back of the car and the wheel in the front right side goes to the right back.

Detractors argue that there is little point in trying to ensure that all the tires wear simultaneously and at the same rate. They also point out that this practice necessitate that a complete set of wheels to be bought at a time, something not all car owners can afford. It is furthermore argued that it is best and safest to have the best tires at the rear, regardless of whether the car is front or rear wheel drive.

Yet many experts maintain that vehicles offer better handling when all the wheels are in the same condition. They admit that the replacement of all the wheels at the same time may prove to be an expensive exercise, but prudent automobile owners will certainly be able to plan for the periodic purchase of new tires so that a full set is available when it becomes necessary to replace the set.

When reviewing the various views, it seems as if tire rotation can only be beneficial. The practice allows for even wear on all the wheels, resulting in better handling and improved safety. Luckily, it is easy to perform this simple task at home by using only the tools that are supplied with the vehicle and that is used to change a flat tire.

The Best Ways To Conserve Fuel

You may be wondering how you can conserve energy, and especially fuel that you use in your vehicle. Many people drive quite a long distance to work or school each day and actually use quite a lot of gas. Even sitting in traffic, your auto is usually on and using it. You may not realize that you can actually cut you r energy use down quite a bit if you are just aware of a few quite simple tips. These are not rocket science, but are just things to think about and consider if you want to save money. Saving on fuel and cutting your use can also be good for our environment. Each person is responsible as a citizen of the earth to take care of it and preserve it in a good way for future generations. Cutting your energy use is one of the ways you can do your part in this effort. And, it should save you quite a bit of money in the mean time if you really get serious about it!

The first thing you can think about when figuring out how you can save on gas is to not make speedy starts when you are stopped and start going in your car. Gradual starts can save you about half the gas you would use if you make a speedy start in your car. This is an easy thing to do such as when you are stopped at a stop sign or a stop light. When you get a green light or start moving again, move gradually and don't jump off the line with an abrupt start. It is not a race, and you don't have to beat the car next to you!

Another good way to conserve energy is to try to stay at a steady speed while you are driving in your car. When you slow down or speed up or stop, it cuts your fuel economy every time. If you stay alert and don't drive when you are drowsy or tired you will do better at this one. When driving behind another vehicle, you should keep a good distance between you and the car in front of you. This should help you anticipate traffic issues and help you avoid sudden stops as well as slowdowns when the vehicle in front of you slows down or brakes.

Did you know that when you use your air conditioner it causes your fuel economy to go down? Many people have never heard of such an idea, but it is a true fact. If you don't need the air conditioner, you can leave it off. If it is just a little bit hot or uncomfortable in your vehicle, often you can roll down the windows and let some fresh air in and a little air circulation and you don't even need the air conditioner then. You can try this next time you feel like turning on the air conditioner.

When you sit and your car is one for more than about two minutes, you are wasting gas. If you are going to be stopped for more than two minutes, you can turn off your car and then restart it again when you need to. There are many ways to conserve gas.

Getting Your Vehicle Prepared For the Cold Snap

12.31.2011

The time to fit winter tyres is when the temperature drops below 7 degrees Celsius - it's important to make sure that you don't wait until snow is on the ground to sort out your tyres. In no circumstances should you be keeping your summer tyres on over the winter period as this could potentially put you in a lot of danger.

A lot of people do not know what to do with their summer tyres once they have taken them off in preparation for fitting winter tyres. It's important to make sure that prior to storing your tyres away, you give them a good clean and ensure that they're dirt free; you can do this by simply using water - you should make sure that your tyres are completely dry before putting them away too. Also, another point to remember is that you can either hang or stack them; if you decide on stacking them, then the tyres can be placed on top of each other. Any materials such as chemicals, sharp items or petroleum products can prove damaging for the tyres.

If you're keen to improve your safety on the winter roads (they can become very dangerous in extreme weather!) then your best option is to ensure that your vehicle has suitable tyres fitted and that they're going to work well with the climate that they're being used in. It's becoming more common for people to realise the benefits of having winter tyres and more and more people are choosing to recommend them to their friends. Everybody wants to improve their car's performance and safety, especially at times in the year where you need to pay close attention. You may have spotted that there are a lot of warnings out about driving safely in winter and there are currently lots of advents on the television that are promoting this as well.

Your vehicle handbook has a great deal of information stored inside it including size options for wheels, often you'll find that your handbook will advise you to choose smaller wheels over winter as they'll help to keep your vehicle safe.

Making certain that you're fitting the correct tyres to suit roads and weather conditions is imperative; you must make sure that you've got the right type of winter tyres. You should also try to drive more safely throughout the winter months by leaving longer lengths of times for journeys and increasing the distance you leave from the car in front.

If you want to find out more about winter tyres then you should research winter tyres on the internet.

All Home Mechanics Should Possess an OBD2 Scanner

The prices associated with everything that we do today seem to only increase and never decrease. If you are looking for a way to save yourself some money, then you might want to consider getting a OBD2 scanner. This instrument is exactly the same type of tool that a normal garage mechanic uses to diagnose what it wrong with a car.

They are very simple to use, all you do is plug it into the connection that comes with every new car today. It will then check out your automobile, and if it detects anything wrong it will let you know in the form of a code. An instruction manual comes with an OBD2 scanner that will let you know what the code stands for.

If that all sound fantastic, but you don't know how to fix anything on your car, even if you did know what was wrong with it, there is a solution to that dilemma also. Almost every auto parts supply store today carries repair manuals written in easy to read language for the novice. While certain repairs like rebuilding an engine or changing a head gasket are going to be too difficult for most people, there are certainly other smaller jobs that you can do.

All of us are fully aware of the fact that once a car loses its warranty, its repair bills can be crippling to a family's monthly budget. So, if you are relatively skilled with your hands, or do not mind taking the time to learn, an OBD2 scanner can be a huge money saver and greatly extend the life of a car.

Some of the items that an OBD2 scanner will let you know is wrong with your car are the following; if you are low on a particular fluid like oil or antifreeze, if your car needs a tune up, if the timing belt needs to be replaced, if your brakes need to be repaired, or if some of your LED car lights are out.

Do you have any idea what an auto dealership will charge you to make any of those minor repairs? If you happen to be reading this article, more than likely you do know, and it is quite a bit of money. Once an OBD2 scanner lets you know what is wrong, all you will need to do is to read the repair manual that you obtained, and more than likely you will be able to save yourself at least 75% off the normal price of having an auto dealer or some other shop repair your car for you.

Are these types of auto repairs going to be the easiest thing that you have ever finished in your life, if you have never done this type of work before? Probably not, but then again, think about all of the personal satisfaction that you will get when you save yourself a ton of money repairing your very own automobile. If you have not thought about using an OBD2 scanner before, hopefully you will now consider acquiring one.

Visit our website to find LED Car Lights that you can buy in bulk and also we carry OBD2 Scanner which is a great car accessory.

The Advantages Of Buying Used Cars

12.30.2011

When it is time to purchase a different automobile, many consumers face the choice of new or used. While there are advantages to both, most consumers will benefit from the financial advantage offered by used cars. It is often possible to by a gently used vehicle that offers many great options at a much lower price than buying new.

One of the primary advantages of buying used cars instead of new is cost. The average new automobile drops in value by 20-25% when the buyer drives it off the showroom floor. While some may think this to be an urban legend, the Blue Book values confirm that with as little as 1,000 miles, practically new vehicles have lost this amount of value.

All cars on the road could be considered used cars. It really does not matter who put the first 100 miles on the vehicle, once it hits the pavement it is a used car. Vehicles manufactured today have a much longer lifespan than those manufactured 25 years ago. Older vehicles often were designed for a 100,000 life span. Many would need a major overhaul before reaching that mark. However a vehicle manufactured today often is good for 300,000 miles without major repair. This makes purchasing a vehicle that someone else has had before an even smarter move.

Used cars can be a green choice. Environmentally conscious individuals may find that a slightly used vehicle can help to lower the effect manufacturing new vehicles on the planet. Newer used vehicles provide many of the environmentally friendly features that have been introduced within the past few years but do not require the energy, raw materials and other forms of waste associated with a new vehicle. With the longer lifespan of vehicles, the pre-owned car that is bought today may last many years into the future.

Used cars for sale are available from many different sources. Some buyers prefer to purchase their pre-owned vehicle directly from the previous buyer while others prefer purchasing from a dealer. It is sometimes possible to get a better price directly from the previous owner, however, the buyer then must sell his own existing vehicle. Most dealers will take the previous vehicle as a part of the down payment on the vehicle being purchased. In addition, most private parties do not offer financing on the used automobile that is being sold.

Used cars offer a great way to save money for individuals looking to upgrade their vehicle. They are available from dealers as well as private parties. For the environmentally conscious, they offer a green advantage.

If you are looking to view used cars for sale in New Zealand or looking for great value cheap cars, then you will love the Genuine Vehicle Imports website. Find out why at http://www.genuinevehicleimports.co.nz/

Why Is It Important to Get a Driving Instructor With Referrals?

In the quest to get value for money in the harsh economic climate we are in, you need to be certain that you are being instructed by the right person when you pay for lessons. Not only do you need the assurance that you are receiving instruction from someone highly trained and fully qualified, you have to be sure that he satisfies industry standards. That is, is he or she DSA approved? You also need to find out if they are licensed to offer training services. These are the basics a driving instructor must have before he can be given any referrals.

A driving instructor with referrals is likely to be one who is friendly and understanding. These are absolutely critical qualities for an instructor to have when dealing with a first time learner. If you are just learning how to drive, you need a trainer who will slowly help you build your confidence. So talk to someone you know; a friend or relative who just underwent a driving course. If their instructor proved to have the patience and knowledge to coach a beginner, then you can also use his services.

Instructors with recommendations are likely to have proper equipment for the job, that is, carefully maintained vehicles that are relatively new. They will also probably give you the leeway to choose between an automatic and manual transmission vehicle. Trainers with referrals are careful to see that their cars are in optimal condition as it keeps them in compliance with regulation and standards. Apart from this, they do it to attract and retain customers. Of course they also want to avoid negative comments that can spread easily over the Internet, especially on social networks.

There are a number of websites from which you can get reviews and comments from past students about the quality of services offered by their instructor. Online forums also exist where driving instructors are rated by their former students, who also give candid feedback about their experience with the trainer.

Another factor that will make students recommend a driving instructor is their rates. Reasonable rates will always draw positive comments, especially when combined with top quality service. Three Simple Actions to Much More Used Trailers Sales

12.29.2011

If you're looking to improve your sales when it comes to used trailers, it really comes down to three simple steps. Follow them and you should have no trouble improving sales almost immediately.

In fact, it doesn't matter whether you're selling cabs, tires, flatbed trailers or fuzzy dice to hang from the mirror, these three easy steps will help you improve sales for just about anything.

1. Wash, Wax and Repair

People who are shopping for a used trailer can't be bothered to "use their imagination" and think of what the thing is going to look like after a fresh coat of paint. They want to see it in its best possible condition. Before moving forward, get your trailer in like-new condition, or as close to it as possible. When people see a shiny trailer that looks like it just came off the lot, they're a lot more likely to open their wallets than if they see one with a couple of bangs and dents and a fresh coat of dirt on the exterior.

2. Take a Ton of Photos

Whether or not you're much of a photographer, it doesn't matter. If you take a few dozen photos you're bound to come up with a handful of really good ones. Studies show that a great ad loaded with pictures will get eighty percent more clicks than a text-only ad, so don't even bother posting one in the first place if you're not going to photograph the trailer inside and out.

3. Find a Good Ad Site and Write a Good Description

The other half of the puzzle: A great site and a great description. The best sites to post for-sale ads aren't always the free ones, and the best descriptions aren't always the ones you write yourself. If you really want to improve sales, think of it as an investment: Find the best site for your purposes and be willing to pay a fee if they require one, and hire a writer if you don't feel comfortable writing a description yourself. There are writers who will tackle the job for a few dollars a description and sites that charge pennies per ad, so it's hardly a major expense compared to the improved sales you'll get from great ads on a great site.

If these three steps don't help you to improve trailer sales over time, then clearly you skipped one of them.

Kia Optima 2012 Review

12.28.2011

Kia Optima is a middle-sized sedan that is manufactured by one of the largest automotive manufacturers Kia Motors. The first generation of the car was launched in 2000 that has gained a horrible sales-statistics across the U.S. automotive market - just 97 Optima's were sold. But after the tons of advertisements, good marketing steps and the introduction of the car to the potential customers there was sold up to 26000 models. Starting from 2001, there has always been statistical growth of sales.

Second Generation

Comparing the second generation of Kia Optima to the first one, we can find the major differences, as the car was no longer look like to the donor vehicle Hyundai Sonata. The car was like a new item for the market and the sales were dropped, but after the major update of exterior the car returned the old triumph. The new update made the car look like the face of the South Korean car - little bit aggressive face, solid body and the better engine...

Third Generation - Kia Optima 2012

The completely redesigned, stronger face, sportier profile and the Kia's new corporate grill ("Tiger Nose") - the new Kia Optima was introduced to the market in 2010 and at once it has gained a huge acknowledgement. The car has always been a profitable product for the company, but after manufacturing the third generation it made millions of people become dedicated fans of Kia Motors.

There are no major exterior as well as interior changes made for Kia Optima 2012. The car is more likely to be a sporty face, but it preserves the class of the family sedans for economy, but the best thing regarding new Optima is that nowadays it is known as one of the best-looking cars of its kind and some other sorts too.

Engine/Performance & Details:

There are produced three trims of the car: LX (base), EX, SX. Each trim besides SX has the better version, LX MT - LX AT (both of these models have 2.4L engines); EX - 2.4L engine and EX Turbo with 2.0L engine with 74 more horsepower. SX model is the most expensive one that is manufactured with 2.0L engine and 274 HP (same as EX turbo, but looks sportier).

Why Carwashes Need WiFi or a Larger Escape Lane in the Information Age

The other day, I was sitting in the local Starbucks - it is a couple of buildings away from a very popular carwash in town. This particular carwash happens to do hand washing, and also has quick detail services which they call; Express Detail Service. Anyway, I was talking to one of the customers who happened to leave their car for the express detail, and run over to Starbucks so she could use the WiFi for their iPad, and their smart phone.

The lady I was talking to was concerned because the carwash to not have WiFi available, and when she tried to use the WiFi system they would not give her the password so she could get her e-mails. They gave her some sort of an excuse;

"If we let you use it, we have to let everyone use it, and they would tie up all the bandwidth, and we would be able to run our computer system,"

and the service manager at the carwash also made a statement;

"We never know if someone comes in to get a carwash, wants to use our WiFi system so they can hack us."

The lady was rather miffed, why would she come to a carwash and pay $45 to get her car detailed, and actually, every week for a $10-$19 carwash and suddenly become a hacker to break into their computer system? After all, she considers herself a very good paying customer, and after being in the carwash business for over 27 years before retirement, I would certainly agree that are regular customer like that is very valuable, and she didn't deserve getting the runaround from the carwash manager when she asked a simple question about using the WiFi system.

Now then, as a carwash consultant in my early retirement I can tell you that all carwashes in this day and age, in our information age, need to have WiFi available for all of their customers. If they don't have that available, especially on the weekends when the lines get very long, they need a Larger escape Lane so customers that have important things to do can get out of the line, so they don't have to wait to text message their friends, pick up their e-mails, or get online. Let's face it - we now live in a connected world.

All automotive service companies would be wise to have WiFi access available. And if these companies are worried about someone breaking into the computer system, then they should have a separate standalone WiFi system for their customers to use. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it. If you don't keep your customers happy, I bet your competition would be glad to.

2013 Mercedes Benz SL550 Announced

12.27.2011

Get ready to short Pfizer stocks, because the brand new 2013 Mercedes Benz SL550 will be putting Viagra out of business. The 2013 Mercedes Benz SL550 continues a tradition that was started 60 years ago. A tradition that is synonymous with sport, style, and comfort. The 2013 SL550 is no different, although Mercedes is touting a slightly different tune about the all new and improved SL: it's lightweight, athletic and luxurious.

Lightweight, an aspect that is very critical to a performance vehicle. This is something that Mercedes Benz did not discount with the 2013 SL. Being built almost entirely out of aluminum the new SL is significantly lighter than it's predecessor, while at the same time features enhanced rigidity, body-roll and agility. The new body shell weights around 242 pounds less then it's steel counterpart. The change from steel to aluminum shell has also allowed Mercedes to focus on enhancing other aspects of the car structure such as optimizing safety points and adding additional rigidity to reduce vibration and thus, increase comfort. In all, the new 2013 Mercedes Benz SL550 weighs 275 pounds less than it's predecessor, bringing in the final weight to approximately 3,925 pounds (1780kg) from 4,200 pounds (1,905kg). Still a fairly high weight for a roadster, especially considering that a 2012 BMW 750i, a very large V8 luxury sedan, weighs 4,564 lbs (2,070kg). However, BMW'sV8 Twin Turbo roadster, the 2012 BMW 650i weighs in at 4531 lbs (2,055kg), significantly more than the 2013 SL550. Don't worry though, we'll point out the fact that the high weight doesn't necessarily limit the 2013 SL550 from achieving it's two other important qualities of being athletic and luxurious.

Athletic: if anyone knows anything about Mercedes Benz and SLs, they know that they're most definitely athletic. From 700 torque producing biturbos to raw naturally aspirated V8s, the SL is always on the forefront with power, handling and athletic capabilities. The 2013 SL550 is not any different, featuring a 4.7 liter V8 that spews out 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. "That's great" you say, "but my Mustang can do the same thing," in which you fail to recognize that the power increase from the outgoing 2012 SL500 improved by 12% despite a 0.8 liter drop in displacement. Torque on the other hand, improved by 32% up from a puny 391 lb-ft. Combine the weight drop with a smaller, more efficient engine, then take some other fancy components like steering enhancements and suspension tweaks and you get a fat roadster with enough torque to open your pickle jar that can do 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. That's AMG territory!

Let's not forget that despite being lightweight and athletic that the Mercedes Benz SL550 is still a vehicle of luxury. While the rev limiter is ringing in your ears you'll be able to appreciate the longer, wider and taller dimensions of the new SL. While the exhaust note will wake your neighbors, you'll be appreciating the FrontBass system that is integrated into the body of the car, making for a concert hall experience even with the top down. While your friends gloat about their Prius' gas mileage you'll be laughing for 20 seconds as your retractable hardtop drops down for you to enjoy the open air driving experience.

But let's not forget the most important piece about driving a Mercedes Benz: how you look in it. The car is clearly one of the most cleverly designed roadsters ever. The 2013 SL550 retains the classic, traditional foundation of a SL model but at the same time evokes sportiness through balanced proportions of the elongated hood with the wider rear end. Sexy would be an understatement and overkill would be a compliment. all in all, this car looks great and it'll be sure to bring CarNecks smiles from all around.

CTEK 3300 Battery Charger Review

12.26.2011

The CTEK 3300 is an intelligent lead-acid battery charger designed for 12 volt applications in the form of many vehicle types like everyday cars, trucks and motorcycles to boats and ATVs. This versatility also extends to all types of lead-acid 12 volt batteries. That includes GEL, MF, Wet, and AGM batteries.

Being an intelligent charger, the 3300 will care for the battery using a four-step process. It is this multi-step process that CTEK was built on as a company. The charger will analyze, repair, and recharge batteries with care so that the battery isn't harmed and has the longest life possible.

A normal, simple fast charger and even some trickle chargers don't take care to manage the voltage and charge level of the battery. When care is not taken by the charger, the battery will lose life due to excess heat. In a worst-case scenario, this could mean a completely dead battery that cannot be charged again.

Instead, the 3300 constantly monitors the battery's condition as it quickly charges. Once the battery reaches 80% charge, the charger slows down the charge and trickle charges the battery up to 100% capacity. At this point, the charger will cease charging and will begin maintaining the battery. It does this by "pulse-charging" the battery when it detects discharge and by doing so will keep the battery in peak operation. This is the core process for the safe and gentle charging of a battery.

But that's only telling half the story about CTEK's multi-step charging process. One of the major problems with a lead-acid battery is that as the battery is discharged, lead sulfate crystals will form in the acid of the battery. These crystals inhibit charge, and with more build up a battery will have reduced charge life. If the battery is stored for a significant amount of time with little or no charge, these crystals will continue to grow and could completely kill your battery.

The 3300 will work to dissolve these crystals as it charges the battery, restoring old dead or nearly dead batteries to operation.

For about $74.99 retail, you also get a number of other features specific to CTEK battery chargers. For one, you get a very durable unit that can resist water and dust, and can withstand shocks and extreme temperatures. CTEK claims a normal operating temperature range of -4F to +122F, which is quite impressive, and it's a number you know you can trust because of the five-year warranty. The charger also features a cold-weather charging mode for below-freezing weather, in addition to modes specific to large and small batteries ("motorcycle" mode and "car" mode). All this is built into a compact housing which has holes for mounting anywhere via screws.

After all is said and done, the CTEK 3300 is quite a little package. It gets a big thumbs up from me, and I'm trying my best to think of any downsides. At this price, with these features, it seems like a no-brainer for every household.

Gregory is an automotive enthusiast whose newest site, CTEK Battery Charger offers buying guides, features and specs comparison, and reviews of CTEK products including the CTEK XS800, XS3600, and more.

Technology Marvel - Remote Car Locking

12.24.2011

The advancement in car technology led to the invention of keyless entry remotes that interact with the vehicle by transmitting radio waves. Remote key is the mechanism that not only makes car handling convenient for you but keeps the car safe as well.

Gone are the days when one had to manually lock car doors to ensure safety. Automation and modern day technology makes it possible for us to ensure safety of our cars with the touch of a button. Introduced in early 1980s by American Motors and popularized by General Motors on their Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiac model of cars, the remote keyless entry or power door lock is a portable device that has the ability to lock or unlock cars from a distance without any physical contact.

The remote keyless is generally designed to include a remote entry system and an ignition system. Broadcasting radio waves on a particular frequency is the mode of operation of remote keyless. The frequency used by these remotes in North America is generally 315 Megahertz and 433.92 Megahertz for Asian and European cars. The remote keyless generally has an inbuilt encryption in order to ensure the radio waves are not hacked into by miscreants. Pressing of the button on the remote results in flashing of the lights of the car to indicate transmission of signal through radio waves. The flashing of lights of the car is generally accompanied with a sound like a beep. Some cars also have the remote linked to the horn of the car and thus use the sound of the horn to indicate locking of the car.

The number of beeps generally signifies the action performed. Locking of the car is usually denoted by a single long beep and unlocking is denoted by two beeps. Some cars also have a mechanism to lock or unlock only the driver's door while leaving the passenger's doors locked. The remote locking mechanism is also sometimes linked to windows and thus windows of cars also automatically close on being locked through the remote mechanism. The remote mechanism along with locking the car also sets an alarm which gets triggered if anybody tries to forcibly open the doors of the car. It thus keeps the car safe and secure even while you are away.

The remote locking mechanism can also be linked to other utilities like garage doors to automate opening of the garage door. Each model of car has a remote specifically designed for it. These are generally available at local automotive dealers. Automotive keyless remote can also be explored and bought online as per the model specifications of your car. Also replacements of the remote car locking system can be bought in case you lose your present remote.

This article is written by an expert associated with Fob Keyless, a trusted online automotive locksmith that offers keyless entry remotes for most car models.
